RCC Brings AI to Environmental Compliance

RILA Retail Advisor Enables Retailers To Benchmark

Today, the Retail Compliance Center, an initiative of the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), released the RILA Retail Advisor, an online portal designed to help retailers assess the design of their environmental compliance programs and measure their implementation against industry peers in real time.

The tool was developed with the recognition that understanding and optimizing the performance of environmental compliance programs can be a challenge for retailers, particularly those with stores across multiple jurisdictions that each bring their own regulations and enforcement challenges. By answering a series of questions about their company and current compliance practices, the RILA Retail Advisor, powered by AI, then produces a customized programmatic assessment benchmarked against industry peers and offers real time recommendations for strengthening compliance.

"We've found that one key to evaluating and advancing environmental compliance is to make sure a company is asking the right questions about their program – and answering them honestly. The RILA Retail Advisor, with the help of AI, does just that," said Tiffin Shewmake, Retail Compliance Center executive director and RILA vice president. "Retailers can now assess each dimension of their compliance program and interact directly with subsequent recommendations all within one online tool. In the environmental compliance world, we consider this a gamechanger for increasing compliance capabilities, reducing risk, and optimizing and strengthening programs."

The RILA Retail Advisor is now open for all retail companies to use and can be accessed here. Retailers will also can demo the tool at the 2018 NAEM EHS & Sustainability Management Forum from October 23-26 in Louisville, Kentucky.
