Overview
RILA’s Consumer Products Committee (CPC) is composed of quality assurance, quality control, sourcing, legal, product stewardship, and government affairs professionals who work to develop and implement consumer product safety and compliance programs within leading retailers. Participating in the CPC allows members to share information and benchmark with their peers, on product safety compliance challenges, including new compliance trends and proposed legislation and regulations.
Understanding the current regulatory landscape for consumer products helps retailers look to continually provide the safe and quality products that customers demand. The expertise of committee members helps RILA advocate on members’ behalf for policy changes on product issues, before Congress and federal regulatory agencies including the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, the Environmental Protection Agency, the Federal Trade Commission, National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.
The CPC holds monthly calls to update members on upcoming and pending legislation and regulation and enforcement trends. The committee also holds two in-person meetings a year. Both the meetings and calls include educational sessions and benchmarking opportunities. In-person meetings are held in connection with the International Consumer Health and Safety Organization (ICPHSO) in late winter and in the fall with rotating locations.
For more information on the CPC, contact Susan Kirsch, director, regulatory affairs and compliance at susan.kirsch@rila.org.
