ADVISORY: RILA Exec Discuss Product Safety at ICPHSO Annu

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), the trade association for America’s largest and most sophisticated retailers, will participate in the 2016 International Consumer Product Health & Safety Organization (ICPHSO) annual meeting next week. Kathleen McGuigan, RILA’s senior vice president for legal and regulatory affairs will highlight the retail industry’s commitment to product safety and the industry’s collaboration with other public and private stakeholders.  

Retailers are committed to ensuring the safety of the consumer products sold to U.S. consumers. Their unswerving dedication to this goal is evidenced by their continuous efforts to improve the safety of consumer products, quickly remove unsafe products from the market and their collaboration with government regulators including the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), industry and consumer advocacy stakeholders to educate consumers about product safety issues.  

RILA’s Kathleen McGuigan will participate in three panels during the meeting to elaborate on retail practices and the importance of a partnership between industry and regulators.

About the Expert: Kathleen McGuigan, Senior Vice President, Legal & Regulatory Affairs: Kathleen McGuigan handles regulatory and compliance matters and oversees RILA's Legal Direct Reports (Deputy General Counsel) Committee, Compliance Council and Product Safety Committee. McGuigan joined RILA after 11 years as senior counsel for JCPenney, where she was responsible for providing legal advice on international, trade, product safety, regulatory compliance, and contract matters. McGuigan started her legal career in the U.S. Customs Service Office of Chief Counsel and then went on to spend time at the Department of Justice and the Department of Transportation, Office of International Law.
