Retailers to Senate: Don't Play Games with Pay Equity

Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) Vice President of Workforce Evan Armstrong issued the following statement as the U.S. Senate votes to consider the Paycheck Fairness Act today.

“Leading retailers know that adopting fair and equitable hiring and pay practices is vital to building a 21st Century retail workforce that works for all. The Paycheck Fairness Act is unequivocally the wrong approach to addressing the gender wage gap and does not have the necessary amount of votes to pass the Senate. The Senate should not play games with an important topic like pay equity. For this reason, we strongly encourage both Republicans and Democrats to come together on a commonsense solution to pay inequality like the WAGE Equity Act.”

RILA sent a letter to Senate members today outlining the industry's concerns with the bill and identifying commonsense policies to address pay equity retailers support.
