Electric Vehicle Fleets

Retailers are evaluating electric vehicle fleets as part of broader efforts to reduce emissions and improve supply chain efficiency. RILA provides research and tools to help retailers assess the costs, operational considerations, and strategies for fleet electrification.

Electric Vehicle Fleets in Retail Supply Chains

Retailers are evaluating electric vehicle fleets to reduce transportation emissions while improving supply chain efficiency and long-term operational performance.

Retailers spend significant time and resources optimizing supply chain infrastructure to serve customers efficiently while reducing environmental impacts. Increasingly, companies are evaluating lower-emissions fueling options and electric vehicle technologies for fleet operations, whether those fleets are owned directly or operated through transportation partners.

Electric vehicle fleets are gaining attention as a strategy for reducing transportation emissions across retail supply chains. However, because the technology is still emerging in many markets, retailers and logistics providers must consider the total cost of ownership, infrastructure capacity, operational impacts, and long-term adoption strategies.

To help retailers better understand these challenges and opportunities, RILA partnered with Atlas Public Policy, the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES), and David Gardiner & Associates (DGA) to examine the landscape for electrified trucking across the retail supply chain. This collaboration produced research and tools to help retailers and transportation partners evaluate electric fleet options and understand the financial and operational factors that influence adoption.
