Labor & HR executives focus on employment and labor issues affecting retail.
Overview
The Labor & Employment Committee is comprised of labor and human resources executives like senior labor counsels, directors of employee relations, and deputy general counsels. These professionals focus on areas of risk in labor law at the local, state and federal level to ensure their retailers are in compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements. Areas of focus include issues wage/hour development, workplace harassment and discrimination, and unionization issues. In addition to compliance, this group explores the need to modernize and reform workforce policies for the 21st Century Retail Workforce.
The committee’s discussions help to inform RILA’s federal legislative and regulatory actions with the aim of reorienting the conversations towards the future of work and what policy updates should be considered within that conversation.
The LEC meets biannually in the Spring and Fall and holds monthly update conference calls. In addition to regular updates from RILA staff about workforce policy, the monthly calls include presentations from subject matter experts and federal policymakers and staff.
