The senior-most attorneys, reporting directly to the General Counsel, work collaboratively to exchange information including leading practices.
Overview
Retail Legal Departments and Deputy General Counsels play a critical role in helping companies identify and mitigate legal, compliance and ethical risks related to the wide range of federal, state and local statutory and regulatory requirements that affect all aspects of retail operations, including labor and employment, privacy and data security, payments, customs and trade, SEC reporting requirements, anti-money laundering, real estate, intellectual property and licensing, marketing and advertising, FDA, food safety, pharmaceuticals, consumer products and environmental compliance. Other Deputy General Counsel responsibilities include contract negotiation, litigation and managing in-house legal teams and outside counsel.
RILA's Legal Direct Reports (L2) Committee is composed of members’ Deputy General Counsels and other executive level attorneys that report directly to the General Counsel. Led by a leadership team made up of RILA members, the L2 Committee provides an opportunity for members to engage at the executive level on strategic legal issues facing the retail industry as well as the development and management of effective legal departments. L2 Committee activities include in-person meetings, educational webinars, member case studies, and benchmarking surveys. These activities enable members to identify emerging issues and risks and share information and leading practices. Recent topics include:
