Overview
RILA’s State Affairs Committee is comprised of state executives and their staff and serves primarily as a consensus builder and intelligence sharing entity for leading retailers to help navigate key issues around state capitols. The State Affairs Committee’s issue focus is member driven and determined at in-person meetings throughout the year.
The retail industry is increasingly faced with a patchwork of state laws that impact not only bottom lines, but things like compliance and environmental issues. We not only provide support for our members but also work closely with our State Retail Association partners around the country to help tackle these critical issues.
Being a member of the State Affairs Committee provides great opportunity for your organization to understand the dynamics playing out around the country and provide input on issues you believe the industry should be focusing on and are important to you.
While our key issues can change year-to-year, the State Affairs Committee focuses primarily on items related to data privacy and security, workforce and labor, and taxes. We meet in-person twice a year, hold monthly calls to touch base on key pain points, and often have individual calls to understand the concerns of leading retailers.
For more information on the State Affairs Committe, contact Jason Brewer, senior executive vice president, at jason.brewer@rila.org or Townsend Brown, coordinator, state government affairs at townsend.brown@rila.org.
