Scam Alert: Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Emails
As an exhibitor/sponsor or attendee, you may receive scam emails from fictitious third parties offering to sell you services or information relating to a RILA conference. Scams may include:
- Attendee List Scams – solicitations offering to sell a RILA conference “attendee lists”
- Accommodation Scams – offers to help facilitate accommodation arrangements (e.g., hotel bookings) at a RILA conference location
What to Know:
- Nearly all third party offers to sell attendee lists or to help facilitate accommodation arrangements are scams.
- Email scammers will hold themselves out to be employed by or affiliated with RILA by appropriating RILA’s trademarks.
- RILA takes protecting your data and information seriously. We will NEVER sell your data to a third party. Learn more by reading our Privacy Policy.
- RILA does not use or authorize third parties for conference accommodations. For information on accommodations or reservations for any RILA event, please check your event confirmation email, or RILA's website. Don't hesitate to reach out to any RILA employee if you are ever unsure about official accommodations.
What to Do:
- If you receive an attendee list or accommodation scam email, do not respond to the sender or click any links.
- Follow your organization’s policy for reporting SPAM. You can also block the sender’s email.
- File a report. You may also file a report with the Federal Trade Commission (FTC): https://reportfraud.ftc.gov. The FTC will share your report with law enforcement to help stop these practices.
- Notify RILA. If you are unsure whether an email is a scam, reach out to memberservices@rila.org at RILA to assess the validity of the sender.
