Retailers Celebrate the Trailblazers

As the US marks the 100th anniversary of the 19th amendment this year, we took the opportunity to celebrate the courageous women that led the suffrage movement, reflect on the progress made, dream big about what the future holds for women in America, and – of course – honor the integral role women play in the retail industry.

RILA President Sandy Kennedy
At a reception held in the RILA offices in Washington, DC last week, we brought together retail leaders and members of Congress from both parties, including the chairs of both congressional campaign commitees, to join in the celebration. In addition to raising a toast to the suffragettes that helped move our country toward greater equality, we had several special guests share their personal stories and perspectives on the role of women in leadership and the importance of continued progress.

Mary Dillon, Ulta Beauty CEO and vice chair of RILA’s board of directors
Representative Cheri Bustos (D-IL 17th District) and chair of the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
Representative Virginia Foxx (R-NC 5th District)
Representative Jackie Speier (D-CA 14th District)
We were honored to have such strong female leaders join us in recognizing the trailblazers. As many of our speakers noted, we “stand on the shoulders” of those who came before us in advocating for equality and move forward with the understanding that there is work yet to be done.
