Retailers Blast Payroll Tax Proposal

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) issued the following statement from Senior Vice President, Government Affairs Austen Jensen in response to a proposal introduced today by Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) to increase payroll taxes on businesses.

"Threatening businesses with a whopping payroll tax increase--many of whom were shut down for months in 2020, and had their operations restricted by as much as 75% throughout the holiday season--should be a non-starter for anyone who cares about economic recovery and getting furloughed workers back on private sector payrolls. This shouldn’t be brought up under a 50-vote scenario or a 60-vote scenario; it’s a terrible idea."
