Relief Package Will Boost Efforts to Vaccinate, Re-Open

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) issued the following statement from Senior Executive Vice President, Public Affairs Michael Hanson in response to House passage of the COVID-19 relief bill, which is expected to be signed into law by President Biden:

“Passage of the American Rescue Plan Act will provide a needed boost to pharmacies, grocers, and retailers working around the clock to administer vaccines to millions of Americans. The resources provided to support this effort, along with funding for schools and local governments will ensure all segments of the economy have the tools and resources to quickly administer vaccines and safely re-open the economy. We encourage state and local governments to use these new resources to vaccinate front-line retail workers as quickly as possible.

“Since the outset of the pandemic a year ago, retailers have been acutely focused on providing essential goods and services while investing in the PPE and protocols to keep our employees, customers and communities safe. With infections slowing and the vaccination campaign progressing, retailers are bullish on fully re-opening the economy, however, we will continue to urge all Americans to follow common-sense safety precautions—including wearing masks—until every American has had the opportunity to take the vaccine.  We look forward to working with both parties on infrastructure, trade and other public policy priorities that will grow the economy and get Americans back on private sector payrolls.”
