Each year, an increasing number of U.S. retailers are voluntarily reporting their GHG emissions. Over 60 large U.S. retailers have adopted or are in the process of developing voluntary reduction targets for GHG emissions, with more companies expected to do so in the future. Additionally, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has proposed mandatory reporting requirements for publicly held companies with final regulations anticipated in 2023. Against this backdrop, it is crucial for companies to have a robust process in place to identify, estimate and report GHG emissions.
