Decision
The Texas Supreme Court denied review of an Austin court of appeals' decision that invalidated Austin's paid sick leave rule. The appellate decision argued that the city ordinance would have conflicted with Texas' Minimum Wage Act, which prohibits cities from interfering with wages paid by private businesses.

Brief Filed
The Retail Litigation Center filed an amicus brief asking a Texas intermediate appellate court to enjoin enforcement of the City of Austin's paid sick leave ordinance on the grounds that the ordinance is preempted by the Texas Minimum Wage Act. The RLC's brief explains the benefits that state-wide uniformity provides to employers and employees. The Texas Retailers Association and the Restaurant Law Center joined the brief.
