RILA Supports House, Senate Legislation to Mitigate Tariffs

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) Vice President of International Trade Hun Quach issued the following statement in support of the Import Tax Relief Act, legislation introduced this week in the Senate by Senators Chris Coons (D-DE) and James Lankford (R-OK), as well as in the House of Representatives by Representatives Ron Kind (D-WI) and Jackie Walorski (R-IN). The legislation would create an exclusion process for products included on List 3 of Chinese imports subject to Section 301 tariffs.

“The Import Tax Relief Act is about providing Americans due process and we thank Senators Lankford and Coons and Representatives Kind and Walorski for introducing this bipartisan legislation. This bill will provide fairness for retailers, manufacturers, and other importers, allowing them to make their case to get tariff relief.

"The President's announcement on delaying tariff increases to $200 billion of everyday products was welcomed but the existing tariffs on thousands of consumer items have created uncertainty throughout the retail supply chain.

"While we advocate for the removal of all tariffs, we appreciate the opportunity to participate in an exclusion process as we seek to mitigate the ongoing pain."
