Retailers Respond to State of the Union Address

Focus On American Jobs And Infrastructure Brings Optimism Bu

Today, the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), the trade association for America's largest and most innovative retail brands, issued the following statement responding to the President's State of the Union Address:

“RILA appreciates the President's commitment to improving our nation's infrastructure, growing our economy, and strengthening our diverse American workforce. We are encouraged by the Administration's ongoing dialogue with China and our global trading partners. We are hopeful for a speedy resolution before tariffs on everyday consumer products increase to 25 percent. Any legislation that provides greater authority to increase tariffs without a Congressional role would be damaging to millions of American families and businesses. Tariffs have already impacted the prices consumers pay for everyday essentials and have left businesses scrambling to mitigate costs. With uncertainty in the markets, proposals like the US Reciprocal Trade Act hurt retailers, farmers, manufacturers, and American families."

RILA recently released its 2019 policy agenda, which focuses on the top legislative and regulatory priorities for America's retail industry.

RILA is the US trade association for leading retailers. We convene decision-makers, advocate for the industry, and promote operational excellence and innovation. Our aim is to reimagine and transform the retail ecosystem - and equip leading retailers to succeed in it.

RILA members include more than 200 retailers, product manufacturers, and service suppliers, which together account for more than $1.5 trillion in annual sales, millions of American jobs, and more than 100,000 stores, manufacturing facilities, and distribution centers domestically and abroad.
