Retailers Outline 2020 Public Policy Priorities

RILA to advocate for free markets, competition, diversity

The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) today released its 2020 Retail Public Policy Agenda, outlining the retail industry’s priorities for the year. As the voice for leading retailers in Washington, RILA’s focus will be on securing efficient supply chains, promoting competition and innovation, growing the 21st century retail workforce, enhancing the customer experience, and ensuring safe and affordable products.

Specifically, RILA will advocate for:
  • Trade policies that allow for efficient and reliable supply chains;
  • Privacy and data protections laws that protect consumers;
  • Payment reforms that enhance competition and transparency;
  • Criminal justice reforms that address the growing challenge of organized retail crime; and
  • Workplace policies that promote diversity and flexibility.
“Our 2020 policy agenda reflects retail’s commitment to free markets, competition, economic growth, diversity, and sustainability. As retailers rise to meet the challenges of a dynamic and changing economy, our advocacy work will be driven by these principles,” said RILA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs Austen Jensen. “We look forward to working with our members and policymakers of both parties on these issues that matter most to retailers, our employees, and our customers.”

The agenda was developed with input from top retail government affairs executives, as well as RILA’s board of directors. RILA announced earlier this week the election of Ulta Beauty CEO Mary Dillon as the Association’s new Board chair.
