Retailers Push Senate Judiciary Committee: Protect Dreamers

Joe Williamson, director government affairs at the Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA), the trade association for America’s leading retailers, issued the following statement in advance of today’s Senate Judiciary hearing on the American Dream and Promise Act:

“The retail industry employs thousands of DACA recipients. These hardworking individuals are part of the social fabric of America and part of the retail family; they are our friends and neighbors. They deserve a clear and permanent legal pathway to citizenship.

“Dreamers have been put in an untenable and uncertain position for far too long. RILA is encouraged that the Senate Judiciary Committee is holding a hearing today to consider the American Dream and Promise Act which will incorporate the DACA program into federal law and eliminate the ambiguity that exists today. RILA implores the Committee to quickly pass the bill and get it to the Senate floor for a vote.“
