Retailers and Customers Give Hope in the Wake of Harvey

As Hurricane Harvey touched down on Friday, the retail community in Texas, Louisiana and across the country sprang into action. Some of America’s most recognized brands are helping to answer the call in the wake of disaster, giving back to communities affected by the storm.

“The retail community is consistently on the front lines in providing much needed relief for Americans dealing with disaster,” said Lisa LaBruno, RILA’s senior vice president of Retail Operations. “Hurricane Harvey is no exception. Whether it’s providing water, medical supplies, fuel and shelter, retailers are doing everything they can to help communities rebuild in the wake of devastation. As retail faces these challenges head on, we are committed to providing hope to those that need it most.”

Retail is the nation’s largest private sector employer, with thousands of associates in the areas directly impacted by Harvey. RILA members and local partners have been working around the clock to ensure their employees and customers are out of harm’s way while bringing life-saving supplies to communities in the eye of the storm.

The Texas Retailers Association is on the ground helping local authorities in the impacted areas of Houston coordinate relief efforts. Specifically, through the distribution of food and products, and team members helping with rescue efforts.
