In 2014, RSI facilitated three work groups to identify how to integrate sustainability into the future of retail. The overall structure was co-chaired by Sears and CVS Health, with workgroups focused on:
- Future of Stores, considering the new retailing environment is global, urban, omnichannel, tech-enabled, service and experience-oriented. Co-chaired by J.C.Penney and Lowe's.
- Future of Products & Value Chains, considering global, complex, tech-enabled, and transparent supply chains, plus consumers who are increasingly seeking services and experiences. Co-chaired by Gap, Inc. and VF Corporation.
- Future of Consumers & Employees, considering consumers that are urban, savvy, and time constrained; and seek transparency, healthfulness, customization, services, and experiences. Chaired by Walgreens.
The workgroups' activities culminate at RILA's Retail Sustainability Conference.
