Following President Trump's address to Congress tonight, Brian Dodge, senior executive president, public affairs issued the following statement.
"Retailers remain hopeful that Congress and President Trump will focus their collective efforts on policies that grow our economy and fatten the paychecks of working-class Americans. That means tax reform that puts families first.
"Retailers support pro-growth tax reform that makes America more competitive by closing loopholes and ending corporate welfare to lower rates. We do not support raising prices on American families to give corporations a tax cut.
"Retail is the backbone of our American economy, supporting 42 million American jobs. Imposing a tax on American retailers and consumers is a burden we just can’t afford. We look forward to working with lawmakers and the White House on tax reform that sparks economic growth and puts more Americans back to work.”
