Today the Retail Industry Leaders Association issued the following statement of congratulations following the announcement that Andy Puzder, chief executive of CKE Restaurants, will be named secretary of the U.S. Department of Labor:
"We congratulate Andy Puzder on his appointment to Secretary of Labor. As CEO of CKE, he has been a strong advocate for rolling back regulations that limit opportunities for working Americans across the country. We look forward to working with Mr. Puzder on supporting sound labor policies that promote wage and job growth in the retail industry," said Jennifer Safavian, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs for the Retail Industry Leaders Association.
RILA has been vocal in opposing measures that would damage the employer-employee relationship like the National Labor Relations Board's rulings on micro-unions, the joint employer standard, and ambush elections as well as the Department of Labor's overly burdensome regulations including the recently announced overtime rule.
As the nation's second largest private sector employer, more than 18 million Americans work in retail and another 10 million work in careers supported by retail. RILA is committed to preserving the benefits valued by retail employees and shaping sound policies that allow retailers to create a path forward for their workforce.
RILA is the trade association of the world's largest and most innovative retail companies. RILA members include more than 200 retailers, product manufacturers, and service suppliers, which together account for more than $1.5 trillion in annual sales, millions of American jobs and more than 100,000 stores, manufacturing facilities and distribution centers domestically and abroad.
