As we all know, retail is an industry that is evolving rapidly, and with it, so is the field of retail asset protection. As never seen before technologies emerge and consumer expectations change, new challenges arise for those tasked with protecting goods in stores and along supply chains Retail asset protection professionals are constantly evaluating operational effectiveness within their respective companies, a large part of which relies on benchmarking and best practices discussions with industry peers.
RILA's Asset Protection Leaders Council (APLC), sponsored by Zebra Technologies and Profitect, leads a group of senior retail asset protection executives through these discussions and convenes for an in-person meeting each year. Last week, AP leaders from top companies like Best Buy, Gap, Kroger, Lowe's, Target, Ulta Beauty, Walgreens and more met in Nashville for the annual event.
LP Magazine was live at the event and captured the below from attendees:
This year's agenda challenged attendees to think outside the box when it comes to asset protection, with a heavy focus on innovation trends in the industry. After announcing Paul Jaeckle, Meijer's VP of Asset Protection as the new APLC chair, the group kicked things off with visits to retail stores in the area so executives could see first-hand their peers' efforts to combat ORC and other malicious causes of
Total Retail Loss. After the store tours, attendees reflected together on lessons learned and ideas they plan on exploring within their own companies.
The next day began with the (R)Tech Asset Protection Innovation Showcase, during which five start-up companies pitched their cutting-edge technology solutions they believe address retailers most pressing and stubborn AP challenges. The retail executives then had the opportunity to enter into a real-world pilot with the start-ups. Prior to the showcase, we conducted Q&As with a few of the start-ups (linked below) to learn more about how their solution could change the game of retail AP.
Following the innovation showcase, attendees benefitted from retailer-led presentations on pressing topics like the impact of store manager on total retail loss how to approach total retail loss in e-commerce.
