The second annual Women in Logistics event took place at RILA's 2009 Logistics Conference. Building on the success of 2008's inaugural event, RILA hosted a Networking Workshop on Sunday afternoon before the opening of the conference. Nearly 100 people attended, doubling participation from 2008.
Marie Lacertosa, Senior Vice President of Supply Chain Management at J.C. Penney delivered the opening address. Rosa Hakala, Vice President of Transportation & Supply Chain Strategy and Dan Currie, Senior Vice President of Global Supply Chain for Best Buy, shared some of their personal stories and discussed programs geared toward the development of female leadership at Best Buy. Following the executive addresses, roundtable discussions were led by nine senior retail, product manufacturer and service supplier executives on the topic of women’s professional development and programs attendees’ organizations have in place to foster this development.

Responding to a growning demand from our members and conference attendees to facilitate dialogue around workforce diversity issues, RILA also added to the 2009 conference agenda a breakout session devoted to women's leadership development. Presented by Dr. Linda Carli of Wellesley College, this session--"Women and the Labyrinth of Leadership"--become one of the highest rated of the entire conference.
