The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) closed its 2010 Loss Prevention Auditing & Safety Conference (LPAS) today with a keynote address from Stan Walters, also known as "The Lie Guy®," the preeminent expert on kinesic interviewing techniques and well-known author of The Truth about Lying. Walter's, who has appeared on ABC, CBS, Fox News, NBC, National Geographic Channel, and Anderson Cooper 360 discussed various techniques for LP professionals to detect deception by external subjects, employees suspected of unethical conduct, candidates for hire and the like. Following his keynote address, Walters offered all attendees a 4-hour training course free of charge. All attendees who completed the course are eligible to receive Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) credits, Certified Forensic Interview (CFI) credits, and Continuing Education Units (CEU). In addition, attendees heard from Chris Yost, vice president of asset protection for Whole Foods, Mike Alsfeld, senior manager of loss prevention for Swarovski and Jon Grander, vice president of loss prevention for Brown Shoe who talked about the value in developing a loss prevention program that encompasses more than the typical shrink reduction model. Each presenter provided a unique perspective on how their respective LP teams have become indispensable business partners across the corporate enterprise and how they aligned their LP goals and strategies with their company's global strategies. "I am extremely proud of this event," said Lisa LaBruno, vice president of loss prevention and legal affairs. "With record-breaking attendance, an impressive exhibit hall and speakers who are experts in their fields, this year's conference was a huge success. Sessions were informative, relevant and timely and generated robust discussion among attendees.
