The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) issued the following statement in response to a United States Court of Appeals decision that found the 2012 recess appointments to the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) unconstitutional. “We applaud the court’s decision overturning the Administration’s unconstitutional appointments to the NLRB,” said Bill Hughes, senior vice president for government affairs. “The decision should also send a strong message that precedent and the rule of law matter. The NLRB’s activist agenda has gone unchecked resulting in numerous actions that have overturned decades of precedent to establish micro-unions and deny employers due process rights. These decisions and countless others hurt businesses and undermine needed job creation.” RILA is the trade association of the world’s largest and most innovative retail companies. RILA members include more than 200 retailers, product manufacturers, and service suppliers, which together account for more than $1.5 trillion in annual sales, millions of American jobs and more than 100,000 stores, manufacturing facilities and distribution centers domestically and abroad.
