The Retail Industry Leaders Association (RILA) added five industry
executives to its board of directors. The election occurred during the Board’s
semi-annual meeting on January 28 in Los Angeles, CA. Also as a part of the
meeting, Walmart President and Chief Executive Officer Bill Simon was
re-elected to the Board. Executives joining the Board are elected to serve

The RILA Board of Directors is comprised of chief executives from many of
America’s largest and most innovative retail companies. The Board meets in
person twice a year to discuss the most important issues facing the retail

RILA is at the forefront of the
issues most important to the retail industry including tax reform, health care,
labor and privacy, and has led numerous efforts to advance the industry’s
public policy agenda. In 2012, RILA’s campaign to end the unfair advantage
online-only retailers have over brick-and-mortar retailers as it relates to
sales tax collection, resulted in action in 11 states and bipartisan momentum
in Congress to pass a comprehensive federal solution for 2013. RILA has also
been recognized as the strategic leader behind the campaign to reform debit
card swipe fees and is committed to fighting the anticompetitive practices of
the Visa/MasterCard duopoly, opposing the proposed settlement and advocating
for merchant rights.
