Last month, RILA attended the kickoff roundtable meeting of the Retail Energy Alliance (REA) hosted by the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Building Technologies Program. REA was established to aid retailers in improving their bottom lines through energy conservation and sustainability. The retailers in attendance included several RILA member companies and represented more than 1.5 billion square feet of building space. Because the alliance is not an exclusive group, the DOE is encouraging other interested companies to become members.
REA’s goal is to develop best practice guidelines, terminology and tools as well as to provide a discussion forum to share lessons learned and experiences. RILA applauds the DOE’s initiative to assist retailers in their green buildings projects and looks forward to partnering with government officials in future RILA Sustainability Initiative (RSI) efforts.
