We are currently halfway through 2009, and we have seen the retail industry taking the lead on many issues. From the current healthcare debate on Capitol Hill to our continued fight against card check and organized retail crime (ORC), RILA has been working to represent retail’s best interests. With the announcement of two great retail associations merging, we are excited to represent you with one strong voice in Washington and serve you as an engaged, value-added resource.
The merger of RILA and the National Retail Federation (NRF) is well underway, with the expectation that the process will be complete by summer’s end. The merged organization will be retail’s lead advocate in Washington and the industry’s premier forum for pursuing operational excellence and educational programming. You can find updated information about the merger process and pose any questions to RILA President Sandy Kennedy at the new Merger Resource Portal.
In addition to looking forward, I believe it is important also to take stock of where we have been. With this thought in mind, we were thrilled that more than 700 retail, manufacturer and service provider executives were able to join us in May for the Loss Prevention, Auditing & Safety Conference. With first-rate programming and dialogue, the conference exceeded our expectations. The attendees were able to share their perspectives on the top issues facing loss prevention including organized retail crime, retail threat assessment, global loss prevention strategies and managing in a down economy. We thank the many loss prevention, safety and auditing experts that dedicated their time and talents to planning and presenting at this year’s conference. Such an event would not be possible without such capable leaders.
In closing, I would like to thank you for your time and support. Feel free to contact me so that RILA may assist and best serve you. Visit our website often to learn about future events, such as our Supply Chain Losses webinar in July. Through the changing landscape of the industry, we will continue with business as usual to ensure you the best quality and service.
Sincerest Regards,Casey ChroustSenior Vice President, Retail Operations
