With Congress back from its annual recess and retailers helping kids and families get ready for back-to-school, RILA is as busy as ever monitoring key retail loss prevention policy and operations issues during this important season. Health care is top of mind right now, and RILA is working to ensure that the retail industry’s voice is heard in this important debate. We are also looking forward to supporting the organized retail crime (ORC) legislation that will be reviewed by Congress in the coming months. As chair of the Coalition Against Organized Retail Crime (CAORC), RILA is leading the way to combat ORC and will be holding an inaugural Crimes Against Business meeting later into the season. Please look for updates on ORC activity from around the country and ORC happenings on Capitol Hill in the CAORC’s ORC Report.
RILA also is busy preparing for the Loss Prevention, Auditing & Safety Conference, May 2-5, 2010, in Dallas, Texas. The Loss Prevention Steering Committee convened last week to begin planning, organizing and programming the industry’s leading loss prevention, auditing and safety conference. Please be sure to mark your calendars now to attend this great educational and networking opportunity. Between now and then, RILA continues to offer educational opportunities through committee meetings and numerous webinars on important LP subjects. Our recent Supply Chain Losses and How to Develop Shrink Analytics webinars boasted more than 750 attendees. If you were unable to attend either of these, you may view the archived presentations on our website.
Finally, RILA is pleased to see our partnerships with other organizations continue to help the loss prevention community. RILA has worked with the Department of Homeland Security and FEMA to ensure that our retail community is prepared for hurricane season and other natural disasters through the work of the Disaster Recovery & Preparedness Committee. We also plan to address H1N1 concerns as we approach the flu season. Additionally, RILA’s partner, the Loss Prevention Foundation, announced in previous months that the LPCertified certification program would be accepted as academic credit at Eastern Kentucky University. This further exemplifies the advancement of the loss prevention department as a strategic asset within the retail enterprise and the continued push for educational, academic and scientific developments within the field.
RILA continues to bring you the latest information, operational trends and public policy advocacy. I would welcome hearing from you on your company's top-of-mind issues and discuss ways that RILA can support you. Please feel free to contact me.
Kind regards,
