Logistics Conference Scholarship Program
RILA and its Logistics Steering Committee hope to encourage, interest and educate our nation’s young people about the many opportunities available to them in the retail industry by giving them the means to attend a RILA conference. At Logistics 2009, RILA member companies had the opportunity to sponsor and mentor students focusing their collegiate studies on the retail supply chain. The sponsoring company accompanied their student throughout the conference in an effort to provide direct insight into the retail industry, specifically in the logistics function. A special thanks to our Logistics 2009 sponsoring companies: Agility Logistics, AMB Property Corporation, Target, Dematic, Canadian Tire Corporation, Giant Eagle and Wal-Mart.
Scholarship recipients were selected from Auburn University, Iowa State University, University of Toronto, Waynesbury University, Michigan State University, Northeastern University, and University of Minnesota. The students had the opportunity to hear real life challenges and network with senior logistics executives at a premier industry event. As part of the scholarship, the students were asked to participate in a conference breakout session, Future Retail Leaders. Prior to the conference, RILA set up executive interviews for the students to ask questionsas background for their presentation. The student groups presented to executives attending the session their perceptions prior to the interview, findings from their executive interview and comments post interview, as well as their recommendations for RILA, RILA members, and the academic community.
