Sustainable Transportation of People: A Business and Environmental Opportunity (Webinar)
While customer transportation is not traditionally viewed as the responsibility of retailers, the Sustainable Transport of People (SToP) project seeks to address numerous environmental and business drivers. As part of a global conservation partnership, IKEA and the World Wildlife Fund have been working together since 2007 to explore ways for IKEA to reduce the carbon footprint of “people transportation.” This includes customer transportation, purchased product delivery, and employee travel to and from stores. The focus of this effort is to help support a proactive shift in consumer travel that is less carbon intensive. The business result is better ways for existing and new customers to get to IKEA.
At this webinar, Lisa Davis, Social and Environmental Affairs Manager IKEA US, and Sheri Willoughby, Corporate Project Leader at WWF, described their efforts to gather data, analyze opportunities, and propose a strategy to address a wide variety of leverage points to reduce emissions from people transportation including promoting mass transportation, vehicle efficiency, home shopping and incorporating climate considerations when locating new stores. The presentation included a toolkit to help stores start to implement some of these measures. Through this webinar, participants gained inspiration and some general guidance to help other retailers develop strategies to reduce their people transportion footprint.Speakers:Lisa Davis, Social and Environmental Affairs Manager, IKEA USSheri Willoughby, Corporate Project Leader, World Wildlife FundMaterials:Click here to download the presentationClick here to download the webinar recording
