In recent years, a number of new laws and regulations have been implemented which could both impact the movement of goods and lead to exposure to fines and penalties against importers. In addition to Customs and Border Protection, over 40 government agencies have a role in regulating the flow of imported product into the US, resulting in an extremely complex set of regulations to be navigated by retailers. This panel will explore strategies being co-created by government and importers to lower the cost of international trade, promote speed to market for US companies, and ensure that companies are able to effectively manage the complexities of customs and trade regulation.
Examples of topics covered in the panel:
-
Trade transformation initiatives being rolled out by US Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including Centers of Excellence, Simplified Entry, the development of a "single window" for processing import transactions, and the evolution of trusted trader programs such as C-TPAT and the Importer Self-Assessment program.
-
A discussion of private sector engagement with CBP, and how retailers can ensure they have a seat at the table in the development of new programs and in addressing the greatest "pain points" in the import process.
-
Real-world examples of how retailers are navigating issues such as Free Trade Agreements, Conflict Minerals, the Lacey Act, the Consumer Product Safety Improvement Act, and Anti-Dumping Duties. Kim Baudry, Market Development Manager, Dematic;
